Our last day in Barcelona we visited the Cathedral of Barcelona. The cathedral was started in 1293 and was not completed until early in the 15th century. The construction lasted for more than 200 years. The pictures I have included in this post show a large church, but very small compared to the Sagrada Familia where 4 or 5 of this cathedral could fit inside the Sagrada Familia. The Sagrada has been under construction for the past 130 years. Antoni Gaudi knew he would never see the church completed nor would the stone mason that designed the cathedral of Barcelona. They believed that God is eternal, and time is meaningless. We noticed as we entered the cathedral the respect that was shown by those that entered. Men removed their hats; women covered their Shoulders and shorts and dresses where to their knee or below. No one raised their voice, most spoke in whispers or sat in silents. Even after 500 years the stone cathedral was shown reverence by those that visited simply by entering. I hope you can feel from the pictures how magnificent this cathedral is. When we were there, a choir was rehearsing -provided a time to reflect on personal events, and the magnitude of events that have transpired in this cathedral in the past 500 years.
